Walsall wins from Preston North End 3-1

Former Manchester United striker Febian Brandy opened the scoring in the 18th minute for the Saddlers before Downing doubled their lead just before half-time.

James Baxendale put the result no doubt after 56 minutes, with a header Bailey Wright could not prevent winless streak Preston North End at home in the league expands to nine.

Walsall went close after just five minutes with North End goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann denies Jamie Paterson and Andy Butler with a fingertip save.

Preston North End striker Joe Garner, making his home debut, was denied a penalty 16 minutes by referee Carl Boyeson although upended walk to Stuart Beavon's low cross.

Walsall took full advantage moments later when a cross turned Febian Brandy Will Grigg before Paul Downing added a second goal in the 38th minute with a header from Adam Chambers delivery.

James Baxendale completed the rout after the break when Luke Foster loose touch Grigg allowed to vote him out, before an injury-time consolation for Preston Wright.
